Factitious Fungi

The ceramic forms are clearly produced by humans rather than nature while still emulating natural patterns. While a fungus would traditionally grow on organic or decaying matter this factitious fungus is placed on the contrasting white painted parts of a salvaged telephone pole. The faceted ceramic forms sprout from these artificial trunks mimicking the growth of a fungus on a tree stump. The installation has a botanical feel, inspired by geological formations with unmistakably manmade components. Familiar looking objects are transformed to futuristic forms. Biomimicry is the stimulus.
