Human Cocoon
2010

Cocoons are made by insects when changing form, as a protective covering for pupae. Inspired by nature as a teacher, Human Cocoon is composed of woven climbing ivy and yarn over a few branches as structure, resembling an insect cocoon, sharing a similar function metaphorically, offering a place to alter into a different stage of life. The piece will start to break down over the 3-month display period, its various bright colors of yarn turning to grayish, marking the completion of one stage. As time goes by, one being completes one stage of its life...

Born in java, Indonesia, April Lelia has a done anumber of art activities that include solo shows, group shows, performance art group, teaching art in rural part of Bali. She has been involved in relatively few activities since she moved to the USA in mid 2006.
