Earthly Obscura

This is an ephemeral earthen-sculpture that incorporates a "camera obscura". The sculpture allows for people to look inside and view the inverse-image that is projected; "As Above, So Below".

The focus of my work over the past few years has been both permanent and temporary structures built as catalysts for experiences with nature. Visitors are often encouraged to engage with the sculptures from the inside out, contemplating the exterior from within. It is always interesting for me to see how individuals interact with a piece; each person adds a 'layer' to the artwork. I enjoy the transitions, alterations, and the ways people and the environment manipulate the art. I encourage people to photograph, film, draw or write about their interaction with the sculpture and share it with me.

Bio:
Megan Treasure is an environmental sculptor, installation artist, and ceramicist. She was born in the Pacific Northwest and raised between Seattle, England, and New Zealand. She now lives and works from her home in Seattle.

Her work is grounded, contemplative, feminine, tactually enticing, and often includes the observer in the work by inviting an interaction to take place. Ecology and art education began early for Megan and have continued to form strong bonds in her work. Megan studied at the University College Falmouth in the UK, gaining her MA in Art & Environment in 2012. In 2010 she graduated with a BAS from the Evergreen State College with dual-focus in Sculpture and Environmental Studies.

Megan has done residencies in Washington and Cornwall (UK) and her work has been exhibited in London, Sancreed, and Falmouth, as well as numerous locations in Washington State. She was the recipient of the 2012 Hotelympia Junk Sculpture Award in London, and the same year she was commissioned to create a permanent installation by Plan-It Earth Eco-Project in Sancreed, Cornwall.
